Steering Gear Test during Sea Trial

Steering Gear Test during Sea Trial

Carry out steering test on bridge during loaded on summer load water line and running ahead at maximum service speed corresponding loaded to maximum nominal shaft RPM and maximum continuous rating (MCR).

Procedure listed below:

Steering with No.1 oil pump set:

35° S.T. ->35° P.S.

Measure time from 35 one side to 30° another side, which shall be less than 28 sec.

Wait the speed up to maximum service speed.

35° P.S. ->35° S.T.

Measure time from 35° one side to 30° another side, which shall be less than 28 sec.

Steering with No.2 oil pump set:

35° S.T. ->35° P.S.

Measure time from 35° one side to 30° another side, which shall be less than 28 sec.

Wait the speed up to maximum service speed.

35° P.S. ->35° S.T.

Measure time from 35° one side to 30° another side, which shall be less than 28 sec.

Steering with two pumps sets:

35° S.T. ->35° P.S.

Measure time from 35° one side to 30° another side which shall be less than 14 sec.

Wait the speed up to maximum service speed.

35° P.S. ->35° S.T.

Measure time from 35° one side to 30° another side which shall be less than 14 sec.

Note: as to three steering test mentioned above, hold 10 seconds after steering every time. During test, measure max. working pressure of oil pump of steering gear, motors current and voltage. Check whether there is any abnormal heat generating, knocking and leakage.

Conduct Emergency steering test in steering gear room at half speed of progressive speed of the vessel.

Steering with No.1 pump set:

Amidship –> 15° S.T, –> 15° P.S. –> Amidship

Steering with No.2 pump set:

Amidship –>15° P.S. -> 15° S.T. –> Amidship

As to above steering test mentioned above, hold 10 seconds after steering every time.

Measure time from 15° P.S. to 15 S.T., which shall be less than 60s.

Auto pilot test is referred to autopilot test booklet.
