Sea Trial – Introduction

When the ship is substantially completed, official sea trials should be carried out with all systems tested and adjusted and ready for such trials. All the equipment condition including anchor, rudder and life saving, fire fighting, bilge, ballast, navigational, communication system etc. are to be in compliance with the requirement of seaworthiness.

The schedule of sea trial to be supplied to Owner and Classification Society’s site offices. And the tests in sea trial (speed and maneuvering test) to be carried out according to the sea trial procedure.

General Part of Sea Trial

The general part of sea trial to be included:
1) Progressive speed trial
2) Full astern stopping test (only for the first vessel of series)
3) Stopping test (only for the first vessel of series)
4) Turning circle test (only for the first vessel of series)
5) Zig-zag test (only for the first vessel of series)

Apparatus for Tests

Apparatus and instruments for tests and trials to be used after inspections from Metering Department of the Yard except those equipment accompanied with certificates.
DGPS (Differential-GPS) to be used as one of the record instruments for speed trial and maneuvering tests. Gyrocompass and log to be calibrated before maneuvering tests.

Record and Reports

During tests the record will be made by QC Department of the Yard. After trial finished, the test reports to be prepared by Yard and submitted as the items of the finished document for the delivery of the vessel.
